Daniel’s prophecy of the seventy sevens (Dan. 9:24–27) has long been debated, often projected into a distant future. This study offers a different approach—one grounded in historical context, Second Temple expectations, and a unified chronological framework.Presented as ten Jubilee cycles (490 years), the prophecy begins with the covenantal restoration under Nehemiah and unfolds through Israel’s “troubled times” to its climactic fulfillment in the first century. The final Jubilee (AD 21–70) marks the decisive period in which the Messiah appears, accomplishes redemption, and oversees the transition from the old covenant age to the new. Particular attention is given to the forty-year period between AD 30 and AD 70, understood as a time of harvest maturation—culminating in the destruction of Jerusalem, the historical terminus of the seventy sevens and the completion of Daniel’s six redemptive purposes. Drawing on biblical texts alongside insights from the Dead Sea Scrolls—especially 11QMelchizedek—this work demonstrates that early Jewish expectations placed both the appearance of the Messiah and the consummation of redemption within a single Jubilee framework. The result is a compelling reexamination of Daniel 9: a prophecy not deferred for millennia, but fulfilled within the horizon of the late Second Temple period—bringing the old covenant age to its appointed end in AD 70.
